Conflict Management in Turkey: From Practice to Theory – Lecture Series
The aim of this bimonthly lecture series is to provide a platform for conflict management professionals, both academics and practitioners, to share their experiences of ‘the field’ with other (aspiring) conflict management professionals and students. The general objective is not only to reflect upon the way conflict management methods are carried out in practice, but also to contribute to the promotion of peaceful conflict resolution methods. All seminars are strongly related to real life situations. Speakers will be encouraged to draw in examples from Turkey and surrounding countries. Every lecture will be concluded with asking how the methods and principles discussed can be applied to novel situations. These recommendations will be collected and published and distributed upon completion of all lectures.
Speakers will be Turkish and international. Topics will relate to Turkey and the wider region. All seminars will be in English and will last for a morning or an afternoon.
Themes that will be addressed are related to the following suggestions:
• Conflict and gender
• War and peace journalism
• Peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions
• Management and resolution of water conflicts
• The role of NGOs in the peaceful resolution of political conflicts
• The European Union as a conflict management project
Conflict Management Summer School
The conflict management summer school aims to provide the opportunity for Turkish and international conflict management students to discuss different themes related to conflict management in Turkey and the wider region and encourage students to conduct research on real-life situations. More specifically, the summer school will be based on three different elements: lectures and discussions with practitioners and academics, the opportunity to conduct research on the settlement of a conflict at local, regional or national level and a simulation game that wraps up the summer school. The school will be held upon the closure of the academic year in Turkey and will be open to both Turkish and international students.
